Trying to make sure that people named Brian aren’t discriminated against is an odd problem to have, but one our team faces none the less! The Scottish Medical Imaging (SMI) platform is built to remove all personal identifiers from medical data released for health care and AI research. If a researcher needs brain scans it can get tricky when Brain is misspelt Brian, or vice versa.
The team then finds themselves needing to work out how to differentiate between these two, without simply excluding scans from everybody named Brian!
